On July 10, 2026, the 8 days Southeast University School of Architecture – Porto University Faculty of Architecture International Summer Visit and DesignCamp was successfully concluded in Porto, Portugal.

Under the theme “The City and the Landscape: localized intervention in complex geography”, 25 students and teachers from both schools went on study trips to important architectural sites in Porto, and collaborated on a design camp dealing with the challenging relationship between urban fabric, human life, and natural landscape.

This study trip and design camp programme was organized by the Southeast University School of Architecture/Internationalization Demonstration School, and the Porto University Faculty of Architecture (FAUP), with participation of SEU faculty Assoc. Prof. Ricardo Ruivo, Assoc. Prof. ZHANG Xu, Lecturer ZHANG Yingle, and FAUP faculty Dean Prof. João Pedro Xavier, Assoc. Prof. Teresa Calix and Assoc. Prof. Joaquim Moreno. This marks the inaugural initiative for a new international partnership between the two architecture schools and the architecture cultures of the two countries.

本次活动以“城市与风景：复杂地理环境中的地方性介入（The City and the Landscape: Localized Intervention in Complex Geography）”为主题，来自两校的25名师生共同开展建筑考察与设计实践。活动期间，师生深入参访波尔图重要建筑与城市空间，并围绕城市肌理、人类活动与自然景观之间复杂动态的关系开展联合设计研究。

本次访学与设计工作营由williamhill英国官网、东南大学建筑国际化示范学院与波尔图大学williamhill英国官网（FAUP）联合主办，参与教师包括东南大学Ricardo Ruivo副教授、张旭副教授，张映乐老师，以及波尔图大学williamhill英国官网院长João Pedro Xavier教授,Teresa Calix副教授, Joaquim Moreno副教授。此次联合教学是两校正式建立国际合作关系后的首次联合教学活动，也是中葡两国建筑教育交流与合作的重要实践。

The international exchange began on July 3 with the academic seminar “Urban Renewal and Modern Heritage: Portuguese and Chinese Experiences”, held at Porto University Faculty of Architecture.

In coordination with a delegation from China Architecture Design and Research Group (CADG), led by Academician Prof. CUI Kai and Academician Prof. LI Xinggang, and with representation of Ordem dos Arquitectos (Portugal Architectural Society), this seminar was an opportunity for a broad sharing of experiences, from China and Portugal, addressing how the need for urban renewal, and intervention in the modern built environment, is increasingly a challenge affecting consolidated cities and territories at a global scale.

Under the moderation of Prof. ZHANG Tong, Dean of Southeast University School of Architecture, the seminar included presentations by Academician Prof. LI Xinggang, Chief Architect of CADG; Prof. ZHANG Xu of SEU; and Prof Nuno Valentim of FAUP.

7月3日，国际交流活动以在波尔图大学williamhill英国官网举办的学术论坛“城市更新与现代遗产：中葡经验交流（Urban Renewal and Modern Heritage: Portuguese and Chinese Experiences）”拉开帷幕。

论坛由中国建筑设计研究院有限公司（CADG）代表团协同举办。代表团由崔恺院士、李兴钢院士率队，并邀请葡萄牙建筑师协会（Ordem dos Arquitectos）代表共同参与。

论坛围绕全球城市更新与现代建成环境干预这一共同议题展开，分享了中国与葡萄牙在城市更新、现代建筑遗产保护及既有建成环境更新方面的实践经验与研究成果，探讨了在全球范围内成熟城市与既有建成环境持续更新背景下所面临的共同挑战。

论坛由williamhill英国官网院长张彤教授主持。中国建筑设计研究院总建筑师李兴钢院士、东南大学张旭副教授以及波尔图大学williamhill英国官网 Nuno Valentim 副教授分别作主题报告。

Field Trip Programme to notable examples of contemporary architecture in Porto

建筑考察：波尔图当代建筑与城市空间调研

Students and teachers from China and Portugal undertook a programme of study trips to important contemporary architectural and urban sites in the city and periphery of Porto, ranging from works by Pritzker Prize awarded master of the Porto School Álvaro Siza, to important examples of contemporary intervention and renovation of modern heritage.

Analysis of these sites allowed students to deepen their understanding of “localized intervention in complex geography”, the theme of the design camp.

工作营阶段，中葡两校师生首先开展对波尔图及周边地区当代建筑与城市空间考察，系统调研了波尔图学派代表人物、普利兹克建筑奖获得者阿尔瓦罗·西扎（Álvaro Siza）的重要作品，以及一系列具有代表性的现代建筑更新与既有建筑改造实践。

通过实地调研与分析，学生进一步深化了对设计工作营主题——“复杂地理环境中的地方性介入”——的理解，为后续设计研究奠定了理论与实践基础。

As part of the study trip and camp programme, SEU Assoc. Prof. ZHANG Xu, principal architect of Atelier XüK, gave on July 8 the public lecture “Learning from the Nearby”, on the work of the atelier in Dingshu, Yixing, Jiangsu, which was attended by participants in the programme and other students and teachers of Porto School.

The lecture discussed four works where the theme “localized intervention in complex geography”, is of deep importance to the architectural approach, where the “nearby” is more than just the immediate physical context of the site, but the complex series of relationships between history and the contemporary moment. In this way, architectural intervention produces meaning by situating the generic condition of modern and contemporary life in a specific place.

作为访学与设计工作营的学术活动之一，7月8日，williamhill英国官网副教授、Atelier XüK 主持建筑师张旭应邀在波尔图大学williamhill英国官网举办题为“向近处学习（Learning from the Nearby）”的公开讲座。讲座面向工作营全体师生开放，同时吸引了波尔图大学williamhill英国官网师生参加。

讲座围绕事务所四个代表性项目展开，探讨了“复杂地理中的在地性介入（localized intervention in complex geography）”这一主题如何成为其建筑设计方法的重要基础。在此语境下，“附近（the nearby）”并非仅指场地周边直接的物质环境，而是历史与当代之间复杂关系的总体呈现。设计介入正是通过将现代与当代生活的普遍性境况置于特定场所之中，使建筑获得独特的场所意义与文化内涵。

“复杂地理环境中的地方性介入”——Fontaínhas观景平台与滨河大道设计

Students from both schools collaborated in the design camp under the theme “localised intervention in complex geography”, focusing on the area of Fontaínhas, where the historical city meets the natural landscape. Placing special emphasis on the intersection between the dramatic natural landscape of the cliffs near the river, the historical urban fabric, and contemporary urban renovation, SEU and FAUP students organised themselves in small groups and worked together on producing simple site analysis and projects at a concept-level.

Fontaínhas is a highly complex territory that is both natural and built heritage. Marked by the relationship between the historical fabric of the city and the landscape, the site sits on the edge of formal urban space and the steep cliffside front of the Douro river. After an explanation of the character and history of the site by Porto teachers, students formed groups and explored and interpreted the site together, choosing intervention sites with interesting tensions, contradictions, and untapped potentials.

Students, with support and guidance from teachers from both SEU and FAUP, then developed design proposals, at a concept level, tackling the challenges and opportunities of the site to increase its integration into urban life while respecting the fundamental character of its natural, urban, and social specificity. Connecting technical site drawings to direct observation, using hand sketches, simple models, plans and sections, and perspectival and axonometric illustrations, students explored different approaches to connect the urban and natural territory at different height levels, bringing together the formal city on the upper level with the raw industrial use of the cliffside by railway lines, integrating but preserving the spontaneous use of available small ledges for vegetable gardens by the local population, taking full advantage of the scenic views to create a new urban landscape that expresses itself both formal and informally for increased social use.

调研结束后，中葡两校师生围绕 “复杂地理环境中的地方性介入（Localized Intervention in Complex Geography）”主题开展联合设计工作，以Fontaínhas地区为设计对象，探索历史城市与自然风景交汇地带的空间更新策略。设计重点聚焦于河岸悬崖地貌、历史城市肌理与当代城市更新三者之间的复杂关系，学生以小组协作的方式，共同完成场地分析与概念性设计方案。

Fontaínhas位于波尔图历史城区边缘，是兼具自然遗产与建成遗产特征的复合场所。场地一侧为连续的历史城市街区，另一侧则面向陡峭的杜罗河悬崖，处于城市建成环境与自然地形之间的过渡地带，具有鲜明的地形特征与丰富的空间层次。在波尔图大学教师介绍场地历史与空间特征后，中葡学生共同开展现场踏勘与空间解读，围绕场地中具有张力、矛盾性与更新潜力的节点，自主选择介入对象并形成设计方向。

在两校教师共同指导下，各小组进一步完成概念性设计方案，回应场地更新面临的机遇与挑战，在尊重自然环境、历史文脉与社会生活特征的基础上，探索其融入当代城市生活的可能性。设计过程中，学生结合现场观察与技术图纸，综合运用手绘草图、实体模型、平立剖面及透视、轴测图等多种表达方式，提出不同尺度和层次的空间介入策略，尝试建立不同高程之间城市空间与自然地形的联系，衔接高处完整的城市街区与下层沿铁路分布的工业遗存空间，同时保留并整合居民自发形成的崖地菜园等日常生活场景，充分利用场地优越的景观资源，构建兼具秩序与开放性、正式与非正式特征的滨河公共空间，为城市公共生活注入新的活力。

Students presented their concept-level design proposals on July 10, using the full range of materials from photographic analysis, drawings, models and illustrations. Tutors from both schools provided feedback taking into consideration points such as the understanding of the site conditions, the strength of the architectural and urban proposal, and feasibility of potential execution. Tutors expressed how the designs demonstrated significant observation capacity and sensitivity to the site, great creativity in mixing the use of existing conditions and the proposal of novel interventions, and a great capacity to work cooperatively to conceptualize and develop interesting design ideas in a short time. This work demonstrated the value of cross-cultural work in understanding common challenges to urban integration through site-specific approaches, and through intervention in natural, historic and modern built heritage.

7月10日，各小组进行了设计成果汇报，展示了围绕场地形成的概念性设计方案。学生综合运用摄影分析、场地图解、设计图纸、实体模型及空间表现图等多种媒介，对设计理念、场地分析与空间策略进行了系统阐述。

两校教师共同参与评议，从场地理解的深度、建筑与城市设计策略的完整性，以及方案实施的可行性等方面进行了综合点评。教师们一致认为，各组方案充分体现了学生对场地特征的敏锐观察与深入理解，在尊重既有环境的基础上，创造性地结合现状条件提出具有针对性的设计介入；同时，工作营也展现了学生在短时间内开展跨文化协作、共同完成概念生成与方案发展的能力。

本次联合设计工作营充分体现了跨文化设计教学的价值。通过面向具体场地的设计研究，学生共同探讨了自然环境、历史遗产与现代建成环境协同更新中的普遍议题，进一步深化了对场所特征、城市整合与地方性设计方法的理解，为中葡两校未来持续开展国际合作教学奠定了良好基础。
